3 Factors That Lead to Consistent 5-Figure Months

Getting to consistent 5-figure months seems to be a huge goal among most service-based businesses… I know it has been for me. But there is a lot of work that needs to happen leading up to this point that I think a lot of us, especially if you are newer in business, forget.

I’ve been a business owner of some kind for the last almost 15 years and I’ve had 5-figure months in both service-based businesses and product-based businesses but the last year of growth for my marketing business has been explosive and really highlighted the biggest factors that have led me to more consistency with my revenue.

Here are the 3 biggest factors to focus on to make consistent 5-figure months:

These are the factors that I have personally found to be the most beneficial in propelling my business forward and while I firmly believe that nailing your messaging and building your confidence are non-negotiables for consistent 5-figure months, networking may look different for your business. Keep that in mind while integrating these into your business.

Understanding your target market and nailing your messaging

While I’m a big proponent of being true to you and your brand, knowing your target marketing and how they talk about your industry/services is going to be one of the most beneficial pieces to your marketing efforts. This goes so much deeper that the typical surface-level stuff we usually think of for our target market. I’m talking:

  • What is their current state vs. desired state? (Keep digging into the desired state because it likely goes MUCH deeper than you think or your target market even knows. For example, on the surface it might appear that my target market is looking for a strategy to follow but what they really desire is a flourishing and sustainable business that will provide them with the ability to support themselves and their families. That means they also want to feel confidence in their marketing efforts. The strategy I create for them is just the vessel to get them there.)

  • What are some of their pain points? (aka the indicators they have a problem/need and the solution)

  • What are their objections? (aka the factors that may prevent them from moving forward)

  • What do they value most? (In general and around their problem/need)

  • What is their thought process from the moment they realize they have a problem/need up until the moment they purchase?

Through asking these questions, you can start to understand your target market and develop your key messaging to speak directly to them (and also infuse your unique value proposition). This will naturally attract your target market to you and your offerings and make you a no-brainer to them.

Building your confidence and being your most authentic self

To be honest, when you know your key messaging is dialed in, it naturally will make you more confident in your offerings but consistently working to build your confidence is such an underrated part of building a business.

I cannot explain how it feels to get off a sales call knowing you nailed it and that even if they don’t sign with you it’s not a reflection of your abilities. But in all honesty, when you’re that confident and you’re getting inquiries that are actually in your target market, your closing rate is going to skyrocket.

Not to mention, being your most confident self also allows you to show up as your most authentic self more naturally. And authenticity in business is not only rare but it’s a superpower. This further attracts the right people to you. (Seriously, I’ve had numerous people tell me they signed with me because I swear in my copy so they knew I was the right person. If I followed the norm of writing “professionally” I might have lost out on those projects.)

All of this combined helps develop you as an industry leader and allows you to step into the version of yourself that easily makes 5-figures/month. Stepping into this version of you has almost a magical effect where all your efforts start to snowball which means your results also start to snowball.

Getting yourself in rooms you need to be in (aka networking)

Whether this was doing really great work for my clients that then referred me to others or connecting with complimentary service providers to form strategic partnerships or really any other form of networking, getting myself in front of the right people has expanded my reach which has also expanded my revenue.

Because of this, I’ve gone from working primarily with solopreneurs just starting out to working with small businesses with teams that are already generating a good revenue (aka they have a better budget for bigger projects). I still work with a lot of solopreneurs but having these bigger projects has made hitting 5-figures consistently each month much easier and this is all thanks to the networking I’ve done over the last year+.

There are a lot of factors that go into creating this level of consistency but for me, I’ve found a combination of these three factors has had the biggest impact. Nailing my messaging helped me confidently communicate why my target market needs a strategy and why I’m the best option. Being confident meant I was more comfortable getting myself into rooms with bigger players and being myself knowing I'll connect with the right people and if people don't like me, then they're not my people.

So if you’re working towards consistent 5-figure months, make sure you’re taking time to build your confidence while simultaneously focusing on your messaging (this may need tweaks every now and then!) and putting yourself in spaces you should be in.
